Remote work can sometimes be lonely. Prevent isolation despite your remote work setup with these tips.

Remote work is preferred by employees but it affects us in multiple ways. With some experiencing cabin fever. But it doesn’t have to be that way! One of the ways to minimize this stress is to connect with people. And working remotely doesn’t mean separating yourself from your colleagues. Battling loneliness starts from your close circle but it can also be extended to your workmates. And you can still build connections with your workmates despite the distance.

Here are some tips to build connections with your colleagues as a remote worker:

Join virtual events and activities

Build connections with your colleagues by joining a community (ex: communities that are into working out, gaming, coffee, book reading, etc.) This sense of shared interests or hobbies creates a tighter bond that is more personal than work-related tasks and projects.

Give and take feedback and advice

Let a colleague feel heard and considered by engaging in a conversation about a recent project completed together. Who knows, they might have feedback to help you improve too!

Attend company conferences and trainings

A well-managed learning environment (like conferences, training programs, or seminars) creates a healthy social group while fostering knowledge, and at the same time, improves your expertise.

Value your colleague's contribution

Finding gratitude in a colleague's effort, hard work, initiative, and time makes you  feel seen and valued. Be verbal, and don’t forget to say, “Thank you.”

With these techniques, you’ll find connections with your remote colleagues even if they are on the opposite edge of the world. Who knows? You might even build a lifelong friendship.
